Sharing Books

We have started our ‘library’ again with the children.

Sharing stories and enjoying books is a great way to start your child’s reading journey. Reading with your child can;

  • Help them familiarise and learn new sounds and new language, as they listen to you read, or through asking questions about the story
  • Help to develop your child’s ability to concentrate, as they focus on the story plot
  • Help to develop curiosity and imagination as they listen to what happens in the story, and the adventures that characters go on
  • Help to develop communication skills from the story but also through conversation together and asking questions about what happened, and what they may have enjoyed
  • Help to develop an interest in stories and books and the importance of reading.

The children each have a book bag and reading diary. Each week children are able to choose a book to take home and share with parents, carers and/ or family and friends. As well as their book, each child has their own reading diary. The reading diary can be used to write down what the children liked and enjoyed about the story or book. Parents and carers may also wish to make suggestions based on things that they did not enjoy in the story or suggestions based on their interests.

Books can be returned and changed each week, staff will support the children in selecting a new book to bring home. Sharing books and asking questions about the story is a great way to encourage those early stages of development when children are getting ready to read, so any feedback from parents and carers about this new resource is always appreciated.
